Built In Spice Rack

My kitchen has this very narrow cabinet that would be perfect for spice bottles, but organizing them has been a massive pain point ever since I moved in.

Up till now the spices have just lived in small metal racks purchased with the intention of somehow mounting them to a board that would slide out of the cabinet.

However, after finally looking at it, I decided to build an entire rack from scratch!

The sides were mounted to the backing board, with rabbets cut to hold the “shelves”, which themselves were mounted to the rack.

Next inside the cabinet itself I installed two spacer blocks to hold the sliders. The spacer blocks have dowels protruding from the underside to interface with the normal cabinet shelf holes.

Since I know these holes are (relatively) square, level and true to each other, it made it easy to install the slides and know they were level.

The rack was placed into the cabinet, and marked where the slides needed to attach.

Finally the rack was installed for a test fit:

The rack was pulled back out to apply finish (nothing too fancy, a coat of “Danish Oil” and, once that dried, a quick polish with some paste wax) and my new built-in spice rack is complete! Added some labels to the top of the bottles and another project marked done!
